At the end of a year which saw the first-ever season of FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup with CUPRA EKS take the Team-Manufacturer and Driver title, Series Director Xavier Gavory gives his take on their dominant display as our final part of our look back on the title winner’s season.
“CUPRA EKS were so strong in every regard in 2022.
“In some ways, they are like a Blue Army in the regard that every detail has been thought about, refined and improved and they deployed themselves so strongly throughout the year.
“It was clear from the start of the season that CUPRA had a fantastic line-up with very experienced drivers led by Mattias Ekström, who took the title in PURE ETCR in 2021.
“From the get-go in 2022 they set the standard, and it was clear they wanted to be on top every time they were out on track.
“For FIA ETCR and our objectives, CUPRA is a fantastic brand due to their strong electric orientation and their ambition to become a fully electric brand by 2030.
“They want to show that they are the not only the pioneers in ETCR – because everything started in conjunction with CUPRA – but also as leaders in terms of electromobility. They are a fantastic example of what you can experience in the streets is validated by the track and vice versa.”
