A Turkish brand would be a great addition to the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup in the future, according to the country’s top motorsport official
Eren Üçlertoprağı, President of Turkey’s Motorsport Federation, TOSFED, said during the launch of the inaugural Race TR in Istanbul this week that he hopes to see the nation represented by cars built on home soil in the world’s first FIA-sanctioned all-electric touring car series.
Turkey’s Automobile Joint Venture Group Inc – known more commonly as TOGG – is an automotive country formed in 2018 by a number of high-level manufacturing, media and financial institutions to create a range of electric cars.
Mr Üçlertoprağı (far left of image above) said: “Thanks to FIA ETCR, which draws attention with its technology and its new concept, we will have the chance to raise awareness about electric cars in a way that will also concern the TOGG project, the pride of our country.
“We hope that we can see TOGG participate in this and similar races in the future.
“As the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, we are very happy and excited to host the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup, in which electric cars – the future of the automotive world – compete.”
The first TOGG car, the C-Segment SUV, is due to go on sale this year with four more models to follow by 2030 and an annual production of 175,000 vehicles anticipated.
Race TR will take place on May 18-20 this year at Formula 1 venue Istanbul Park and will move to a street circuit in Beyoglu – the city’s cultural heartland – for 2023 and ’24.
